Kent, Queen Anne's, Caroline, Talbot, Dorchester, Wicomico, Somerset, and Worcester Counties The Eastern Shore is part of the mid-Atlantic Coastal Plain and is separated from the rest of the state by the expansive Chesapeake Bay on one side, and constrained by the Atlantic Ocean and state of DE on the other. It is a flat area that rises gradually to a height of 400 feet on the Western Shore. Water is a dominant feature of the landscape, creating forested wetlands and salt marshes, ocean beaches, and shaping barrier islands and bay complexes. There are also many rivers and streams. Because of the flat land and mid temperatures, the region has excellent farmland, as well as robust cattle and poultry industries.
