Welcome to the

Maryland - District of Columbia Birding Trail

Maryland is certainly the oddest shaped state—stretching eastward rom the Appalachian Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean and bisected by the Chesapeake Bay, one of the world’s great estuaries.
As a result Maryland boasts a tidal shoreline longer than the state of California. We also have some rare geologic areas, such as peat bogs and serpentine barrens, that provide habitat for infrequently seen birds such as Chuck-wills-widow and Northern Bobwhite. We’ve included the District of Columbia, as well as Baltimore City, to demonstrate the birding richness that can be found in urban cities. Our diversity offers some of the best birding on the East Coast!!
To use this birding trail guide, start by selecting a region and explore!
